Synthesis of Benzo[j]fluoranthene at Room Temperature

Abstract:4,4′-(Phenylmethylene)bis(1-butoxynaphthalene)(2) was synthesized by Friedel-Crafts reaction of 1-butoxynaphthalene with benzaldehyde using FeCl3 as the catalyst. 5,12-Dibutoxy benzo[j]fluoranthene(3) was obtained by Scholl reaction of 2. 2 and 3 were novel compounds. The structures were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MALDI-TOF-MS and X-ray single crystal diffraction. 3belongs to monoclinic system, space group Ccwith a=16.606 2(15) , b=14.395 5(15) , c=10.185 9(9) , β=116.338(9)°, V=2 182.2(4) 3.
