Synthesis and Liquid Crystalline Properties of Novel meso-Tetrakis(4-tetradecylaminoformylphenyl)porphyrin and Its Metal(Co) Coordination Complex |

Abstract meso-Tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin(1) was prepared by the reaction of 4-carboxybenzaldehyde with pyrrole. meso-Tetrakis(4-chloroformylphenyl)porphyrin(2) was prepared by the reaction of 1 with sulfoxide chloride. meso-Tetrakis(4-tetradecylaminoformylphenyl)porphyrin(3), was synthesized by the reaction of 2 with n-tetradecylamine. The metal coordination complex(4) was synthesized by the reaction of 3 with cobalt chloride. 3 and 4 are new compounds and their structures were characterized by UV-Vis, 1H NMR and IR. The liquid crystalline properties of 3 and 4 were investigated by polarization microscope and DSC. The results showed that 3 and 4 exhibited liquid crystalline property.
