Abstract The reaction of N-substituted benzylcarbazoles(or N-substituted benzylindoles) with potassium tert-butoxide resulted in debenzylation to carbazole（or indole） in oxygen． The yields were 68%~94％(or 75%~89%). The structures were confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR.
